About Me

My education. I am a first generation Vietnamese American that graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors in Psychology and French. Something that absolutely brings me joy is learning languages and the culture that it interacts with.

My why. Learning languages stimulates my desire to look for and solve patterns. This is such an exciting hobby for me that I started this blog, and I want to share anything and everything about languages along my own language learning journey.

A little bit about the languages I know. Since I grew up in a Vietnamese speaking household, I can speak it natively, but it is challenging for me to read and write in the language. I have been exposed to Spanish all my life since I grew up in Texas, but I never got to formally learn it. I decided to major in French after taking introductory courses at university and learned so much about French society, colonialism, and philosophy. Thanks to a YouTube channel called DamonAndJo, I got so interested in Brazilian Portuguese that I got the opportunity to volunteer as an English teacher in Salvador in the state of Bahia for three months. Because of learning Portuguese, it rekindled my desire to learn Spanish, and I also have consistent contact in the Spanish via the jobs that I've worked, and that's very helpful. Recently, I realized that I want to expand beyond the romance languages, so I am currently learning German and Mandarin at the same time!

My goals. I am applying to medical school programs so that I may train to become a physician. I hope to apply my cultural competence to my career as a provider so that future patients receives the best care that they deserve.
